The M9 Bayonet is the cheapest of the three prestige knife shapes in CS2 and the one whose price everyone remembers from October 2025. On 9 September 2026 a worn Safari Mesh M9 cost $259–276, a Factory New Fade $890–1,030 and a Factory New Doppler $885–1,000 — roughly half what the same finishes cost on a Karambit and well under half a Butterfly.

The receipt: $2,450 to $709 in two days

The M9 Bayonet Fade was quoted at about $2,450 on the evening of 21 October 2025 and hit an all-time low of $709 on 24 October, after Valve's 22 October update let five Covert skins be traded up into a knife. Its recorded all-time high was $2,848 on 6 May 2025, so peak-to-trough it lost 75%. On 9 September 2026 the lowest ask was $890, with the ninety-day range $889–1,029 — up 26% from the low and still 69% below the peak.

The Doppler tells the same story with rounder numbers: $2,538 peak on 5 May 2025, $590 low on 24 October, $885–1,000 at the check-date. Both finishes, on both dates, moved within hours of each other, which is what you would expect from a shape that shares sixteen case pools with four other knives. The mechanics and every other shape's receipt are in how the trade-up update changed CS2 knife prices.

Why the M9 is cheaper than the Karambit

Animation. The M9's draw and inspect are a straightforward flourish; the Karambit's finger-spin and the Butterfly's flip are the two most imitated sequences in the game, and the market pays for the theatre. Blade size cuts the other way — the M9 is the biggest of the 2013 originals and shows a Fade or a Doppler across more surface — but the community has voted on this for a decade and the worn floor sits $100 under the Karambit and $150 under the Butterfly.

That gap is stable. On 9 September 2026 the M9 Fade was 50% of the Karambit Fade ($890 against $1,790) and the M9 Doppler 72% of the Karambit Doppler ($884 against $1,220). Before the crash the ratios were similar. If the Karambit's animation is not the thing you are buying, the M9 is the same ladder at a discount, which the Karambit file prices rung for rung.

Cases, finishes and floats

The M9 drops from the sixteen Arms Deal-pool cases — CS:GO Weapon Case, eSports 2013, Operation Bravo, Weapon Case 2, eSports 2013 Winter, Winter Offensive, Weapon Case 3, Operation Phoenix, eSports 2014 Summer, Operation Vanguard, Revolver, Chroma, Chroma 2, Chroma 3, Gamma and Gamma 2 — always sharing the pool with the Bayonet, Flip, Gut and Karambit. No trade-up can lock the M9 specifically; five Coverts from any of those cases roll one shape in five.

Thirty-five finish entries plus vanilla. Fade, Doppler, Gamma Doppler, Marble Fade and Tiger Tooth stop at 0.08 float, so they exist only in Factory New and Minimal Wear. Lore goes to 0.65, Autotronic to 0.85, Slaughter 0.01–0.26. The common finishes that set the floor run 0.06–0.80; Case Hardened, Blue Steel, Stained and Black Laminate run the full range; Rust Coat starts at 0.40. Every finish has a StatTrak variant, and five StatTrak Coverts trade up only into a StatTrak knife.

Telling the M9 from the Bayonet, and shopping by phase

The M9 is the longer, heavier of the two bayonet shapes, with a fuller down the blade and a clip point; the plain Bayonet is slimmer and straighter. Listings name them unambiguously, but on a Fade thumbnail the two can pass for each other, and the price gap is roughly three to one — an M9 Fade at $890–1,030 against a Bayonet Fade at $330–385 on the check-date — so read the name twice before paying.

On the Doppler, phase is the price. Phase 2, with the most pink on the play side, typically tops the four standard phases; Phase 4 with its blue is next; Phases 1 and 3 trade at the discount. Ruby, Sapphire and Black Pearl are a separate market and were not in our $885–1,000 band. With 812 listings on one tracker, every phase had depth on the check-date, which is the M9 Doppler's real advantage over the same finish on any other shape.

Buying an M9 without overpaying

Buy worn on any finish with a float range above 0.26, and buy Factory New only on the float-capped finishes where nothing else exists. On 9 September 2026 the Safari Mesh floor was $259–276 in Well-Worn and $805–810 in Factory New — a 3.1× premium for the same mesh. The Fade at $890–1,030 was therefore only about $100 more than a Factory New mesh, which is the clearest case on any knife for skipping the floor and buying the headline finish outright.

Marketplaces with float and phase filters serve the M9 well because Doppler phase is the main price lever below Ruby. CSFloat charges sellers 2%; Skinport 8% (6% above €1,000) with no buyer fee; DMarket about 2% on an item this liquid; Steam 15% and wallet-locked. Cash: CSFloat, DMarket, SkinBaron, Skinport, white.market, Lis-Skins. Trading in: Tradeit, SkinSwap, Swap.gg, CS.TRADE. Some are affiliate links and may pay us a commission at no cost to you; bands are read before any of that is considered, and none is a case-opening site. The M9's rank against all twenty shapes is in the index of all CS2 knives.

M9 Bayonet questions

How much is an M9 Bayonet in CS2?

From $259–276 for a worn Safari Mesh on 9 September 2026, $885–1,030 for a Factory New Fade or Doppler, and third-party estimates of $7,500–8,000 for Emerald and Ruby phases.

Is the M9 Bayonet cheaper than the Karambit?

Yes, consistently: on the check-date the M9 Fade was 50% of the Karambit Fade and the worn floor $100 lower. The discount is the animation, not the blade.

What happened to the M9 Bayonet Fade in October 2025?

It went from about $2,450 on 21 October to a $709 low on 24 October after Valve let five Covert skins trade up into a knife. By 9 September 2026 it was back to $890–1,030.

The sixteen Arms Deal-pool cases, from the CS:GO Weapon Case through Gamma 2, shared with the Bayonet, Flip, Gut and Karambit.

Should I buy an M9 Fade or a Factory New Safari Mesh?
